The Slim Smoothie

FullSizeRender (4)

I like to sip on this smoothie at breakfast when I’m feeling like I need something  light but energizing and filling. It’s very rich in protein and some healthy fat and low carb which is especially beneficial for weight loss because it won’t cause a dramatic increase in insulin (and cortisol) levels — this will help prevent fat storage and an energy crash leading to cravings later on in the day. According to Dr. Natasha Turner (the hormone whisperer),  eating a protein-rich breakfast while minimizing starch is essential for hormonal balance and fat loss. Of course, I recommend adding variety to your weekly meals so a bowl of fibrous, protein-enriched porridge once or twice per week also has its benefits. The cinnamon and nutmeg add a delicious spiciness to an otherwise simple smoothie. Cinnamon is also a blood sugar stablizer which is another reason why this smoothie is so slimming!

Sounds amazing! I have a question though. Are the measurements right for this to all be one serving? 1/2 c each for walnuts and almonds? Calculated the calories (because I am trying to lose weight) and it’s almost 1000 for this one serving!

Hi Jasmine! Good eye! Yes, that’s supposed to read 1/4 cup each of almonds and walnuts (about 1 handful or 10 each). x
